Hi, I’m DividendDan.
I am a Japanese native investor based in Tokyo, with over 15 years of experience as a former Strategy Consultant at one of the MBB strategy consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, or Bain & Company), where I analyzed markets across Asia and the U.S.
Living here in Tokyo, I realized something frustrating about the financial news that reaches overseas investors: It is mostly noise.
While global funds are flocking to Japan, most English information is just surface-level translation of earnings reports. It lacks context, nuance, and the “on-the-ground” reality.
My Mission: Bridging the Information Gap
I created BestJapanStocks.com to provide what Bloomberg terminals can’t—a native Japanese investor’s perspective on Tokyo-listed dividend stocks, grounded in direct access to Japan’s IR events, retail channels, corporate culture, and Japanese-language financial media.
I don’t just look at P/E ratios and dividend yields. I apply a “boots on the ground” approach to investing:
- Real World Checks: I visit the convenience stores, walk through the real estate properties, and use the products to see if a brand is actually popular in Japan.
- Cultural Context: I analyze why a company is growing based on Japanese demographic trends and consumer behavior.
- Shareholder Focus: I specifically look for companies that are changing their mindset toward shareholder returns (dividends and buybacks).
